Why Your Marketing on Instagram is Struggling

As a marketing strategist, my favorite question to ask new clients is, “where are you marketing your business?” Sometimes I get clients that are doing everything perfectly & across multiple platforms, other times I get clients that haven’t even started; however, more often than not, I’ll get a client that exclusively markets their business on Instagram.

Let me tell you–marketing on Instagram can be amazing. But only if you’re doing it the RIGHT way!

Let’s talk about the marketing mistakes you could be making in your Instagram marketing strategy:

  • Your highlights are completely empty & taking up space with blank cover slides and no helpful info for your clients.
  • You have a linktree in your bio with dead links. No one wants to click on a link in your bio only to be referred to an “error 404” page. Pro tip: skip the link tree altogether and create a “link tree” type landing page on your website so you don’t lose any traffic to a third party website.
  • Your photos don’t have any captions or hashtags! This is a BIG no no! You need to be writing in depth captions on each and every post using keywords & hashtags so that you can attract and get in touch with your ideal client! Draw them in with your caption & then hit them with a killer CTA (call to action) at the end of it!
  • You have a bio that isn’t optimized & states useless personal facts like “dog lover” rather than who you serve and what you can offer them.

If you’re feeling attacked, don’t worry! I’m here to help you out. Keep reading below to find out the four solutions to the problems that I listed above. If any of those bullets called you out, then here’s how you can fix it:

Level up your highlights!

Treat your highlights as a branded extension of your business–not a footnote! Highlights are prime real estate on your Instagram page & should be treated as such!

Level up your bio!

Simply put, if it doesn’t have anything to do with your business, it shouldn’t be in your bio.

Level up your website!

Don’t overwhelm your customers with 20 links in your link tree–as stated above, use the link in bio to bring customers back to a landing page on your website with 3-4 relevant links. Update them as needed!

Level up your captions!

Always tell a story in your cations and never forget to use some sort of a CTA so that your customers know what to do once they’re done reading.

The most important thing to ask yourself is if you were a customer, would you like your page? If not, then work needs to be done. Let me know if this is hitting home for you by dropping a comment below! If you could use some extra help with brand or marketing strategy, then get in touch & let’s work together!
